Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero, who called the special session, said she conferred with Speaker Frank Blas Jr. and they agreed that public hearings would allow the community greater opportunity for input on the Simon Sanchez High School construction.

Bill 314-38 would allow construction of the new Simon Sanchez High School to proceed even with a pending protest or appeal.

Guam education officials announced Monday that students from Simon Sanchez and Tiyan High Schools would attend classes together.

In November, the groundbreaking for the reconstruction of Simon Sanchez High School was canceled after a bid protest halted demolition.

The new campus, which will feature 87 classrooms, will accommodate up to 2,000 students.
