Guam Department of Education officials said there will be no double sessions beginning next school year.

During a Department of Education oversight hearing at the Legislature on Monday afternoon, Deputy Superintendent Jackie Quitugua told senators that all students will get full instruction.

“Lifting the double session will also hopefully reduce the chronic absenteeism, improve attendance and [provide] that healthy learning environment that they are deserving,” Quitugua said.

Quitugua and Superintendent Judith Won Pat explained that students from Simon Sanchez and Tiyan High Schools would attend classes together in Tiyan.

Students who would be moving to F.B. Leon Guerrero Middle School for sixth grade will remain in their elementary schools for sixth grade.

F.B. Leon Guerrero seventh and eighth graders will be housed in temporary classrooms that will be completed in June and July of this year.

Quitugua said the department needs to coordinate with the Department of Public Works, and the final plan should be announced at the end of March or the beginning of April.
