Acting CNMI Gov. Dennis Mendiola on Monday served Anthony I. Macaranas a letter terminating his appointment as Department of Public Safety commissioner.

Former DPS officer Earl Borja, who resigned after allegations he assaulted a man with a disability in December, has been charged in Superior Court with assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and misconduct in public office.

Two CNMI Department of Public Safety police officers are under investigation for allegedly assaulting a man with a mental disability in Marpi on Dec. 19.
