The CNMI Department of Public Safety is urging motorists to slow down and stay alert after a motorcyclist was killed Thursday morning in a collision with a Saipan Ice & Water truck. DPS Highway Patrol investigator Sgt. Adrian Mendiola said the truck failed to yield while entering the highway, striking a southbound motorcycle whose rider later died at CHCC.
Mendiola said the victim suffered fatal head and chest injuries and was pronounced dead at 12:50 p.m. DPS has not released his identity pending notification of family. The truck driver, who appeared to be in shock, was treated by medics and taken to CHCC for evaluation.
The crash remains under investigation, and DPS expects to file charges once evidence is fully reviewed. Mendiola said skid marks and security camera footage are part of the case and encouraged anyone with additional video or witness information to contact DPS directly rather than post footage online.
Commissioner Anthony Macaranas called the fatality “a very sad day for the family” and reminded motorists that post-typhoon conditions, dark roadways, and rushed driving increase risks. “Drive safely and you will reach your destination,” he said.
