Department of Corrections

Bill 191-38, introduced by Sen. Shawn Gumataotao, would make it illegal to fly drones over the prison, detention facilities, the Department of Youth Affairs and judicial buildings.

Discussion will include agreement on federal prisoners and plans for a new prison.

Bill proposes conducting regular salary, recruitment, and retention studies for Department of Corrections workers.

At a budget hearing for FY26, Department of Corrections officials told lawmakers that a $16M contract to design a new facility has been canceled.
