The suspect in a deadly May 2 roadside assault in Garapan has pleaded not guilty to murder and related charges as the case moves toward a possible trial in August.
BinWei Zhang Secharmidal, 53, entered the plea during an arraignment last week before Presiding Judge Joseph N. Camacho. He is charged with second‑degree murder, voluntary manslaughter, assault with a dangerous weapon, and aggravated assault and battery.
Prosecutors say Secharmidal fatally stabbed 45‑year‑old Sheldon Kaianoa with a stick during a sudden quarrel along Asusena Avenue after the two had been drinking together earlier that night.
Judge Camacho set the next hearing for Aug. 19, when both sides must indicate whether the case will proceed to a plea agreement, trial, or another resolution. The court also expects the parties to be ready to select a trial date.
Secharmidal remains in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
