A night of drinking between two acquaintances ended in a fatal roadside assault late Friday, leading to the arrest of a 33‑year‑old Garapan man now charged with murder.

The Department of Public Safety identified the dead man as Sheldon Kaianoa, 45, of Garapan.

According to investigators, Kaianoa and the suspect—BinWei Zhang Secharmidal, also known as Joe Secharmidal—were drinking together at a local establishment in Garapan before leaving on foot along Asusena Avenue.

Witnesses confirmed the two men had been seen in each other’s company during the drinking session, according to DPS.

An argument reportedly broke out as they walked, escalating into a physical fight.

At 11:23 p.m. on May 2, dispatchers received a report of a disturbance along Asusena Avenue. Responding officers found an unresponsive man lying on the roadway near the BenCam Building with multiple injuries. The second individual involved had already fled.

DPS personnel administered CPR and transported the victim to the Commonwealth Health Center, where he was later pronounced dead by the attending emergency room physician.

Further investigation led officers to Secharmidal, who was located in Susupe and taken into custody. He was transported to DPS headquarters for questioning and has since been formally arrested and charged with murder.

The case remains under investigation. DPS urges anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau at (670) 664‑9000.
