The new 198-megawatt Ukudu Power Plant has been commissioned on Guam after more than a decade of planning, development and construction.
The combined-cycle power plant in Dededo will replace the aging Cabras 1 and 2, which are expected to be shut down in 2026.
The new plant was built in partnership with Guam Ukudu Power and reflects an investment of $600 million.
GPA General Manager John M. Benavente said the commissioning is the culmination of 13 years of work, which included challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic, Typhoon Mawar and a prolonged generation capacity shortfall.
