Guam’s Ukudu Power Plant has begun its final step of testing before commissioning.
It will run continuously for seven days under real operating conditions so engineers can determine if it can safely and consistently carry Guam’s electrical load.
Guam Power Authority said crews are on standby to return generators to service if anything goes wrong.
If such an interruption occurs during tests, the seven-day testing period would restart once problems are corrected.
Once commissioned, the plant is expected to reduce the island’s annual fuel consumption by more than 900,000 barrels.
