Guam Community College opened its newly renovated Culinary Arts and Baking Center, also known as Building 400, on Tuesday.
The upgraded facility covers 5,500 square feet, double the size of the former kitchen and classroom space, which previously operated out of a 2,750-square-foot area shared with GCC’s Multipurpose Auditorium. The auditorium has been relocated to its own standalone building.
GCC President Mary Okada emphasized how the center supports the college’s broader mission.
“You will see that through our mission of providing the highest quality student-centered education and job training for Micronesia, that we will continue to showcase the skills that we have, both in hospitality and management, culinary arts, and baking,” Okada said.
The renovated kitchen features updated equipment and modern instructional spaces designed to support both cooking and baking programs.
It also incorporates new air-quality technology, including upper-room UV germicidal irradiation and non-ozone bipolar ionization systems, to help reduce exposure to airborne illnesses.
GCC says these upgrades set a new standard for hygiene and safety in educational kitchen environments.
With construction now complete, culinary classes and food production will resume in the new facility, bringing students back into the kitchen.
