The Navy wants 2,400 new housing units on Guam to support the military buildup on the island.

According to a request for proposal issued Friday, the number of active duty military on Guam is expected to increase from 17,000 in 2024 to 24,000 in 2033.

The military wants 800 housing units for unaccompanied service members and 1,600 for military families.

According to the request, the government is considering leases, lease-to-purchase agreements and purchases.

At least 75% of the housing should be located in Central Guam, according to the Navy.
