Guam Election Commission voted on Aug. 21, 2025, to realign precincts, reducing the number of precincts from 72 to 59. Officials will roll out a public education campaign to let people know about new precinct locations.

The Guam Election Commission is working on a public education plan to let voters know that their precinct locations might change in the 2026 election.

Commission Chair Jerry Crisostomo said although the election is still a year away, officials need to inform voters about changes to prevent confusion on election day.

"It might create some chaos at some of these precincts," he said. "They get upset that you changed the precinct, they get upset and they leave, they won’t go vote."

A recent law allowed the commissioners to realign precincts, and on Thursday evening, they voted to reduce 72 precincts to 59. Previously, each precinct had about 800 voters. Under the realignment, they will have 1,200.

Acting Executive Director Pacianco Gumataotao explained that early voting has resulted in shorter lines on election day, so fewer precincts are needed.
