The CNMI Office of the Attorney General's public corruption task force has filed charges against four individuals, including three former staffers for then-Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang.

Henry Sablan Hofschneider, Larissa Sablan Flores, Teresita Borja Camacho, and Eloida Dela Cruz Macaranas are all facing charges of misconduct in public office.

The case stemmed from an investigation of the Office of the Public Auditor

According to the filings, Hofschneider and Flores, who now work for Governor David Apatang, are accused of taking nearly $98,400 from the Mayor's Office account for their personal use without authorization.

Camacho, a former budget officer, is also accused of taking more than $38,000 from the same office and failing to report the misappropriation of funds. Macaranas, a payroll manager with the Department of Finance, is charged with processing these unauthorized payments.

The defendants were not arrested but have been issued penal summonses requiring them to appear in court on Aug. 25.

Apatang has commented on the charges, stating that he believes there was "no wrongdoing" and that the situation is a "miscommunication."
