Residents of Guam and the Northern Marianas should get ready for heavy rainfall from Wednesday night through Sunday as a tropical disturbance moves toward the area.
National Weather Service forecasters are keeping a close eye on Invest 98W. The system is located north of Chuuk and is expected to gradually develop as it moves toward the Marianas.
Forecasters expect the disturbance to pass close to Saipan and Tinian late Friday and into Saturday, bringing 5 to 10 inches of rain, with locally heavier amounts possible.
Minor flooding is expected across the islands, with flash flooding possible in areas of heavier rainfall, especially over southern Guam.
Guam Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense is advising people who live in flood-prone regions to clear drainage areas and unblock storm drains to minimize flooding.
