Forecasters are watching Invest 96W, a disturbance near Kosrae that could develop into a tropical storm or typhoon as it heads toward the Marianas.
But the system’s track, timing and intensity are highly uncertain.
The system will continue to organize as it begins moving west-northwest toward the Marianas over the next few days, according to the National Weather Service.
It could pass anywhere from south of Guam to Alamagan in the far northern CNMI, likely sometime this upcoming weekend.
Forecasters are advising residents in the Marianas to maintain a general state of preparedness for the possibility of a passing tropical cyclone.
Meanwhile, Tropical Depression 28W with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph is expected to track to the northwest over the next few days, passing through the far northern CNMI near Agrihan as a tropical depression Tuesday night.
