Guam schools lose WASC accreditation due to outstanding purchase order payment

Several Guam schools were recently notified that their accreditation was terminated, effective immediately, by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

The Guam Department of Education did not name the schools that were involved and did not say how many had their accreditation terminated.

GDOE spokesperson Damen Michael Borja said the termination stems from an outstanding purchase order payment from School Year 2024–2025 that was not processed at the time.

Borja said the department has since addressed the outstanding payment, which was completed Monday.

He said the department is currently awaiting confirmation from WASC regarding accreditation status.

Borja said remains committed to working collaboratively with WASC and will continue efforts to secure the required WASC membership for School Year 2026–2027.
