The Department of Agriculture’s Division of Aquatic and Wildlife Resources, or DAWR, and the Hagåtña Mayor’s Office have installed a community fishing locker at the Hagåtña Mayor’s Office.

The gear is available to all Guam residents with a valid form of identification. There is no age restriction, and the equipment includes reels sized for children.

The locker has six rod-and-reel combinations in varying sizes, as well as tackle boxes and fishing tackle.

Adults may borrow equipment for themselves or on behalf of a child or guardian.

Borrowers must provide valid identification, complete a Fishing Locker Checkout Form, and sign a participant agreement. After use, the equipment must be returned to the Hagåtña Mayor’s Office for inspection.

DAWR also offers fishing clinics by appointment for community members interested in hands-on fishing instruction.

The Community Fishing Locker was funded through a grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Office of Conservation Investment. DAWR says the program aims to make recreational fishing more accessible while encouraging responsible fishing and stewardship of Guam’s aquatic resources.
