The Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved $267,228.50 in Disaster Unemployment Assistance for eligible workers in Rota who lost jobs or income after Super Typhoon Bavi made landfall on July 6, Del. Kimberlyn King-Hinds announced.
The award, issued under a FEMA Disaster Declaration, covers 100% of the total project cost and is authorized through the Stafford Act, which provides temporary unemployment benefits to individuals affected by major disasters.
FEMA said the funding will help support workers and families whose livelihoods were disrupted when Bavi’s destructive winds and storm impacts swept across the island.
The program is intended for individuals who are not eligible for regular unemployment insurance, including self‑employed workers, fishers, and others whose income streams were interrupted by the storm.
King-Hinds said her office continues coordinating with federal agencies to ensure residents can access the assistance once the CNMI government completes the required administrative steps.
The CNMI government is expected to release application procedures and eligibility guidance once the program is formally activated.
