PBS Guam and the Guam Public Library System will host the first-ever Kids Conservation Convention, or Kids Con-Con, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 10 at Agaña Shopping Center.
The free, family-friendly event will give children activities to learn about wildlife conservation and environmental sustainability through hands-on activities.
PBS Guam’s Development Associate, Ruzelle Almonds, said introducing children to wildlife conservation and environmental sustainability fosters their curiosity about their world. She emphasized that sustainability is a communal effort and this convention intends to influence not only the youth but also their families.
“They’re curious, they want to know about their world. We want people to understand that it takes a village, and it will take the whole island to take care of our natural resources,” Almond said. “When it comes to sustainability, it's not about one person doing everything perfectly. It's about thousands of people doing everything little by little.”
The convention will include PBS Kids show screenings, arts and crafts, and special appearances by Daniel Tiger and Elinor Rabbit. The feature preview screening will be of Sesame Street and The Great Elephant Adventure, a PBS Nature primetime crossover.
PBS Guam says the convention aims to engage children and families in learning how they can help protect Guam’s wildlife and natural resources.
By pre-registering online, participants will receive the schedule for the convention and merch. Pre-registration is open until Oct. 5, but is not required to attend. PBS Guam says pre-registration will help organizers provide enough free giveaways for participating children, and priority may be given to children who pre-register.
