Forecasters in the Marianas are keeping an eye on Invest 90W, a tropical disturbance centered northeast of Weno, Chuuk, that is expected to head to the north-northwest in the coming days.
The Joint Typhoon Warning Center rated the system as medium for development Monday, meaning tropical storm development is likely, but it will take more than 24 hours.
Residents are advised to pay attention to the system, because while forecast models have it tracking east of Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan, there is uncertainty about where it will begin to strengthen and how far to the east or west it will be when that happens.
In the meantime, hazardous wind and sea conditions are expected across Chuuk and eastern Yap, at least until Tuesday night.
