The Tower for Humanity’s latest project is nearing completion at the Micronesia Mall, where brothers Landon and Brandon Aydlett are constructing a 25-foot replica of the World Trade Center Twin Towers using more than 100,000 toy timber logs.
The project marks the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and is intended to remember those who lost their lives that day and in the years that followed. The towers are being constructed piece by piece in the mall’s Center Court. The project is expected to remain on display through Sept. 20, with disassembly scheduled for Sept. 21. For Aydlett Brothers, the project is also part of a larger effort to use their tower builds to bring attention to community needs.
Be Heartfelt provides weekend meal packs to children experiencing food insecurity. According to the organization, the program currently serves more than 350 children on Guam each week, with services extending to children in need in Saipan and Palau.
The Tower for Humanity partnership with Be Heartfelt will continue through the fourth annual Cans for Humanity Guam Competition.
The competition will follow an island-wide canned food drive throughout September and early October.
The Tower for Humanity team will also partner with Guam’s Offices of Homeland Security and Civil Defense for a National Preparedness Month Outreach Fair on September 19.
The fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Micronesia Mall.
Local and federal agencies involved in emergency management, preparedness, and disaster response will provide information about disaster awareness and preparation.
For the Aydlett brothers, the project represents more than the construction of a large toy timber structure. It has become a way to connect community members with organizations working on issues in the community.
