Guam residents are being warned about a scam in which an imposter is claiming to be a former Department of Revenue and Taxation official and contacting taxpayers via WhatsApp.
The WhatsApp messages are coming from phone number 671-707-0559, and the caller is trying to extract personal information and collect money, according to Rev and Tax.
The department does not contact taxpayers via WhatsApp, or any other instant messaging application.
Rev and Tax usually issues taxpayer notices through postal mail. If employees have to contact customers, they will use office phone numbers and email addresses.
