The Guam Legislature approved a spending plan Monday requested by the governor that provided money for Super Typhoon Bavi response and recovery, child care subsidy payments and Guam International Airport shortfalls.
The plan, which was amended by senators, provided up to $13.36 million for typhoon expenses, $7.63 million for child care and $17.65 million for the airport.
All 15 senators supported the amended proposal.
Following the bill’s passage, Sen. William Parkinson urged the senators to consider doing “some substantial procurement reform” before the upcoming election.
“Because I don’t want to have to walk into this chamber and play whack-a-mole with emergency procurement rules for the new governor when we could hash those issues out now,” Parkinson said.
He noted that one of two sitting senators - either Sen. Tony Ada or Sen. Therese Terlaje – would be elected governor in November.
