Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero opened the new Public Health Training and Biosafety Laboratory in Mangilao on Monday, saying the lab will quickly provide information to officials responding to health emergencies.
The facility will provide advanced diagnostic testing and disease surveillance capabilities not just for Guam, but for the entire region.
It was built in large part using federal money, and the administration said it will allow the people of the island to benefit from the investment by the U.S. military.
Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio, who is running for governor, described that investment as “transformative and phenomenal.”
He said it would advance healthcare in the region and provide support, equipment and lab services to health workers.
