The Marianas Visitors Authority is welcoming Philippine Airlines’ plan to restart Manila–Saipan service in October, calling the route vital for tourism and community travel.
MVA acting Managing Director Judy C. Torres said the Philippines remains a promising market for the Marianas and that restoring direct service will again provide an important link for leisure visitors, business travelers, medical referrals, and the broader community. “This route has proven to be a valuable link for leisure travelers and a convenient channel for business and medical travel and the Marianas community, overall,” she said.
Her comments follow Philippine Airlines’ announcement that the Manila–Saipan route will remain suspended until Oct. 22, part of a broader adjustment to its international network “due to changing conditions affecting global aviation.” PAL also suspended its Cebu–Osaka service from July 1 to Oct. 24, with limited operating dates in July, August and September.
Torres said the return of the flights will also reopen opportunities for market diversification by reconnecting Saipan to Philippine Airlines’ extensive network of Asian cities. During the suspension period, she said the MVA has continued destination‑awareness efforts, trade communication, and market readiness through close coordination with travel partners and stakeholders. The agency also plans to revisit the media familiarization tour originally postponed in April due to Super Typhoon Sinlaku.
“Activities in the Philippine market remain an integral part of the MVA’s broader efforts toward tourism recovery and diversification,” she said.
PAL apologized for the disruption and said passengers with affected bookings may rebook within 60 days without penalties, convert tickets to travel credits, or request a full refund. Cargo shipments on the suspended routes will also be affected, with the airline coordinating alternative routing options with logistics partners
