Plans for a potential electric vehicle investment in the CNMI are taking shape as government officials meet with representatives from Zo Motors.

Gov. David M. Apatang convened a meeting June 4 with key stakeholders from government and the private sector to advance discussions on the proposed project.

Zo Motors is a global manufacturer of zero-emission commercial vehicles, with North American operations based in California, including a regional headquarters and manufacturing facility in Fontana.

The meeting focused on addressing logistical, regulatory and infrastructure considerations associated with the potential investment, as well as identifying pathways to support economic development.

“The Commonwealth remains committed to exploring opportunities that can strengthen our economy, create jobs and diversify our industries,” Apatang said. “This meeting provided an opportunity for all parties to come together, address key considerations and ensure that we are prepared to make informed decisions as discussions with Zo Motors continue.”

Participants also discussed infrastructure requirements, workforce development opportunities, regulatory processes and potential economic impacts tied to the project, according to the Office of the Governor.

The administration described the engagement as a step toward evaluating opportunities that could bring new investment, innovation and economic growth to the CNMI.

Officials said discussions remain ongoing, with further coordination planned as additional details become available.
