Homeowners and renters continue to make up nearly all borrowers under the U.S. Small Business Administration’s disaster loan program following Super Typhoon Sinlaku, with the agency reporting more than $3.87 million approved so far for CNMI survivors.

SBA Public Affairs Specialist Raenada Mason said 99 percent of approved loans have gone to households, reflecting the widespread residential damage and urgent repair needs left by the storm. Only a small share—less than one percent—has been approved for businesses and nonprofits.

Mason said the SBA expects business participation to rise as companies begin to feel the longer‑term financial impact of Sinlaku, including weeks‑long closures, utility outages, and loss of access to buildings.

To support that need, the SBA is opening a dedicated Business Recovery Center at the Saipan Chamber of Commerce, beginning Tuesday at 9 a.m. The center will operate Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering one‑on‑one assistance for business and nonprofit applicants. It will complement the Survivor Recovery Center in Susupe, which remains open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mason said the Chamber site is intended to give business owners a faster, more focused option for submitting applications and resolving documentation issues. She emphasized that many businesses may qualify for Economic Injury Disaster Loans, even without physical damage, if they lost revenue due to closures or utility disruptions after Sinlaku.

The deadline for physical damage loans is June 22, while economic injury applications remain open until Jan. 25, 2027.
