The U.S. Small Business Administration has approved a little more than $2 million in disaster loans for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands as Typhoon Sinlaku recovery efforts continue, according to SBA Public Affairs Specialist Raenada Mason.

As of May 17, the approved assistance includes loans for homeowners, renters, nonprofits and businesses affected by the April storm.

Mason said SBA is urging all those who are eligible — including small, home‑based and service‑sector operators — to apply.

“We continue to push the message for renters, homeowners, nonprofits and businesses of all sizes to apply. That includes the small entrepreneur who provides lawn care services or the beautician working out of a salon,” Mason said. “For those who are uncertain about eligibility, we encourage them to visit the Survivor Recovery Center and speak to a representative.”

SBA also reported receiving 103 disaster loan applications in May, with staff continuing to assist walk‑ins at the Survivor Recovery Center in Susupe.
