The American Red Cross is preparing to launch a financial assistance program for residents whose homes were damaged in Super Typhoon Sinlaku, according to Red Cross executive liaison Chris Georges.
Georges said Red Cross teams at the Survivor Recovery Center in Susupe are meeting with families to explain available services, gather information on immediate needs, and outline what support is coming next.
“We’re talking to our community members about the services we’ve provided, what’s forthcoming, and listening to families about their specific needs,” Georges said.
The Red Cross continues to operate multiple shelters and distribute supplies such as tarps, cleaning kits, and mosquito nets. The upcoming financial assistance program will be based on verified structural damage, including missing walls or roof sections.
Georges said the Red Cross is coordinating with government and nonprofit partners to help survivors who lost documents during the storm.
“We’re trying to remove as many barriers as we can so families that lost critical documentation can get those funds in the most streamlined way possible,” he said.
Unlike FEMA or SBA programs, Red Cross assistance does not depend on citizenship or immigration status.
“All are welcome,” Georges said.
The Red Cross is still assessing the total number of damaged homes across Saipan, Tinian and Rota. Local volunteers and event‑based responders continue to support shelter operations and supply distribution.
