The Guam Medical Examiner’s office is investigating the deaths of two people found in a sealed home where a generator was running, according to a notice from the Guam Police Department.
Police said the bodies of an elderly man and woman were found in a residence in Charles Torres Street in Tamuning on Saturday.
Police said someone heard the generator, became concerned and called 911.
Guam Fire Department HazMat investigators confirmed the presence of carbon monoxide in the residence, and the chief medical examiner will determine whether it was a factor in their deaths.
Official cause and manner of death for the are pending the release of the medical examiner’s report. The identities of the two are known to police, but are being withheld pending notification of family members.
Guam Power Authority has reminded residents that carbon monoxide presents a safety hazard. It is a colorless, odorless gas that can cause serious illness or death.
Never use generators, grills, or portable stoves indoors. Keep equipment away from doors, windows, and vents and never run vehicles inside garages.
