T’way Air will suspend its Seoul–Saipan route from May 5 to Oct. 24 citing soaring fuel costs, supply constraints, and weakened travel demand linked to the Middle East conflict. The airline notified the Marianas Visitors Authority that global instability has pushed operating costs higher and dampened consumer confidence.

Gov. David M. Apatang said the decision underscores the CNMI’s vulnerability to external shocks, noting that tourism remains the Commonwealth’s economic backbone. He said the administration is working with federal and industry partners to protect air access and support affected businesses.

MVA Board Chairman Warren Villagomez said the agency is coordinating with the Governor’s Office and exploring opportunities with federal partners to attract additional carriers. Korea accounts for about 64% of all visitor arrivals, making the loss of T’way’s service especially significant.

MVA Managing Director Jamika Taijeron called the suspension “deeply concerning,” noting it removes half of the CNMI’s Korea flights. She said the MVA is working with airline and travel trade partners to stabilize air service and sustain demand.

Despite the setback, the MVA remains cautiously optimistic that improved global conditions could allow T’way to reconsider resuming service as early as July.
