Guampedia is kicking off its 2026 Marianas Storytelling Series this Saturday with Kanta Chamorrita Giya Marianas, happening from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Guam Museum Theatre.
Held in partnership with the Guam Museum Foundation, the storytelling series aims to honor CHamoru and Carolinian traditions of oral storytelling while also showcasing contemporary efforts to preserve and share island histories.
The event hosts Manuel Flores Borja and Frances Manibusan Sablan, who will offer a Kantan Chamorrita demonstration. Attendees can expect live storytelling, cultural insight, and an opportunity to connect with local voices keeping these traditions alive.
Kantan Chamorrita Giya Marianas is written by authors Borja and Carmen Songsong Taimano. Their book aims to highlight the traditional CHamoru art form of Kantan Chamorrita. Kantan Chamorrita is a poetic and chant-based form of expression historically used to tell stories and share knowledge through both oral and written traditions.
The event is free and open to the public.
