Guam senators will hear testimony on a bill Monday that is intended to provide timely funding for the Guam Cancer Trust Fund.
The fund provides support for cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment and patient support.
Bill 246-38, introduced by Sen. Telo Taitague, would add Guam Cancer Trust Fund to a list of agencies exempt from Bureau of Budget Management and Research allotment release control.
According to the bill, the timing of allotments from the Department of Administration has been inconsistent, resulting in delayed grant announcements, delayed reimbursements and program disruptions.
The delays are tied to the practice of releasing appropriated funds based on revenue availability rather than program needs.
Some of the other agencies exempted from the practice include the University of Guam, Guam Community College and Guam Memorial Hospital.
The hearing begins at 9 a.m. at the Guam Congress Building.
