Bills protecting pregnant workers and prohibiting housing discrimination based on income sources were signed into law by Guam Governor Lou Leon Guerrero on Monday.
The housing law prevents landlords from turning down rental applicants or requiring different lease conditions if the prospective tenants use vouchers, disability, veterans’ benefits, pensions or other sources of lawful income to pay the rent.
Landlords can still screen applicants through credit, rental and criminal background checks.
The Pregnant Worker’s Fairness Act requires employers with 15 or more workers to make reasonable accommodations for pregnant employees.
It also prohibits discrimination against workers whose ability to perform job functions is hampered by pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions.
