Virginia C. Tudela has been appointed as the interim president of Guam Community College following the retirement of Mary Okada.

Tudela has served as the vice president for academic affairs at the college since 2020, where she played a crucial part in accreditation, according to GCC.

Before that, she spent six years as the dean of the School of Trades and Professional Services.

Okada served as president of the college for 18 years, and said she would offer her services as a mentor to the college’s leadership as the board of trustees seeks the next president.

GCC Board of Trustees Chairman Carlo Leon Guerrero said Okada’s continued presence in a mentorship role would help “anchor the past, the present and the upcoming future.”
Okada recently announced she would be running for the office of lieutenant governor on a ticket with Speaker Frank Blas Jr.
