The Federated States of Micronesia has suspended all shipments of packages to Hawaii and the U.S. mainland, according to an announcement from the FSM National Postal Service.

In August, President Donald Trump issued an order eliminating the duty-free exemptions of shipments to the U.S. for goods valued under $800.

In order to ship packages, the FSM government needs to use a service approved by U.S. Customs and Border Protection to collect the required tariffs.

According to the announcement, the FSM government is not equipped to assess and collect tariffs on all U.S.-bound packages.

The government is working on a solution to secure the services of a vendor that can meet the requirements.

Shipments to Guam, the CNMI and Palau and other international locations are unaffected.

The suspension does not affect letter service or packages sent from the U.S. to the FSM.
