The University of Guam’s School of Engineering will officially open its doors on Friday, marking a major milestone in the university’s history and a transformative step forward for engineering education on Guam and in the region.

There will also be a guided tour of the facility led by Engineering Dean Hiroshan Hettiarachchi will lead a guided tour of the facility after the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The 16,000-square-foot building houses modern laboratories, classrooms, conference and meeting spaces, and faculty offices equipped with engineering equipment designed for instruction, research, and workforce development.

UOG’s School of Engineering currently serves more than 200 students enrolled in its four-year Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering program. The degree has received the maximum six-year accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, allowing students to earn a nationally recognized engineering degree entirely on Guam.

The opening of the School of Engineering builds on decades of pre-engineering education at UOG, which previously required many students to complete their degrees off-island. With the accredited school now established, students can complete their engineering education locally.

The School of Engineering is one of four new facilities opening on the UOG campus, along with the Dr. Lucio C. Tan Student Success Center, Nursing Amex, and the Water Environmental Research Institute Building.
