Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Kim Hye‑seong (far end) takes part in the Korean national team’s training camp in Saipan.

The South Korean national baseball team is now in Saipan for a two‑week training camp as it prepares for the World Baseball Classic, set for March 5–17 in Tokyo.

Governor David M. Apatang and other CNMI officials greeted the delegation Friday at Saipan International Airport, marking the start of the team’s intensive preseason workouts on the island.

Among the players taking the field is Los Angeles Dodgers utility man Kim Hye-seong. The 26-year-old infielder, a four-time Golden Glove winner in Korea, joined the Dodgers in January 2025 after a standout career in the Korea Baseball Organization.

Marianas Visitors Authority Managing Director Jamika Taijeron said the camp underscores Saipan’s growing role in international sports. She called the visit “a proud moment” and said the team’s decision to train in the CNMI reflects the islands’ “far from ordinary” environment, climate and community support.
