Grand Vrio Resort Saipan announced temporary closure beginning April 2026

In a formal notice to the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands on Tuesday, Grand Vrio Resort Saipan general manager Kunito Izumi announced the hotel will temporarily close operations beginning April 2026 and withdraw from the association.

Izumi said the significant decline in tourist arrivals following the suspension of direct flights to Saipan has created “extremely challenging business conditions.”

Grand Vrio also decided to withdraw from HANMI to reassess its operational priorities amid the difficult business climate.

Grand Vrio, formerly known as the Hafa Adai Hotel since the 1970s, was rebranded under Japan’s Solare Hotels & Resorts in the early 2000s.

The closure announcement comes as the Marianas Visitors Authority reports just 10,793 arrivals in October 2025, down nearly 30 percent from the same month last year.
