The Asan Ridge Trail will face temporary closures over the next eight months because of treatment for little fire ants, according to the National Park Service.

A popular hiking area on Guam will face periodic closures over the next eight months.

The National Park Service has announced that treatment for little fire ants will begin at the Asan Ridge area of Asan Beach Park on Dec. 11.

Pesticide application will be repeated once every six to eight weeks.

Because the pesticides must be applied in optimal weather conditions, the specific dates of each pesticide treatment are subject to change.

For the public’s safety, these areas will be closed for 24 hours after each pesticide use. Flagging and signs will be used to block off affected areas. Signs will be removed when it is safe to access the areas again.
