Gov. David Apatang on Tuesday announced CNMI’s execution of its Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program Notice of Award, paving the way for a fiber‑first network to connect nearly 10,000 homes and institutions across the Commonwealth.

This milestone unlocks an $81 million broadband initiative, supported by $22 million in private matching funds, to build a climate-resilient, underground fiber network.

“It’s more than connectivity—it’s a foundation for a diversified digital economy and a stronger Commonwealth,” Apatang said. “Reliable broadband will enhance healthcare, education, emergency response, tourism, commerce, and government services, ensuring every resident has the tools and opportunities to thrive in the 21st century.”

Next steps include signing agreements with providers, completing environmental reviews, and issuing construction notices.
