Former senator Vinnie Sablan announces CNMI gubernatorial bid

Former Sen. Vinnie F. Sablan has formally declared his intention to seek the Republican nomination for governor in the 2026 CNMI general election.

In a letter dated Nov. 10 to CNMI Republican Party President Patrick M. Cepeda, Sablan said his decision followed “much reflection and consultation with family, friends, and community members,” and comes at a time when the Commonwealth faces “significant challenges yet also present great opportunities for growth, renewal, and unity.”

Sablan, who served as Senate floor leader in the 22nd Legislature, said his campaign will focus on economic revitalization, education, healthcare, and cultural preservation.

“My commitment is to promote sound and sustainable policies that strengthen our economy, create jobs, and open opportunities for every family in our islands,” he wrote.

He also pledged to restore public trust in government through fiscal responsibility, transparency, and accountability.

“Above all, my goal is to restore confidence in government by leading with integrity, humility, and a steadfast focus on the needs of our people,” Sablan stated.

Acknowledging the Republican Party’s role in shaping the Commonwealth’s future, Sablan asked for the party’s support and guidance as he embarked on his gubernatorial bid.

“Together, with unity, purpose, clarity, and vision, I believe we can lead our Commonwealth into a future of stability, prosperity, and pride,” he said.
