Guam Waterworks Authority has launched guamwatersafety.com, a website to provide information on dieldrin and drinking water safety.

The Guam Waterworks Authority has asked the Guam Environmental Protection Agency to rescind the “do not drink without treatment” advisory for parts Yigo.

After four consecutive weeks of treatment and testing, no traces of the pesticide dieldrin have been found in the Y-15 water well.

“We have worked diligently to implement corrective actions at Well Y-15, conduct comprehensive testing, and verify that the water is now safe to drink, cook with, and use for bathing,” said GWA General Manager Miguel C. Bordallo. “Based on this data and validation of the treatment system’s effectiveness, we are confident it is appropriate to request that the order be rescinded,”

Guam EPA issued the advisory, which affects about 1,100 customers, on Sept. 12.

On Oct. 10, GWA installed an interim treatment system for the well. A permanent treatment system is expected to be completed next summer.
