The University of Guam’s School of Business and Public Administration will host the Indo-Pacific Peace Conference from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the CLASS Lecture Hall.
Organized by students from the Master of Public Administration program, the conference theme is “Peacebuilding in the Indo-Pacific: Exploring Pathways to Achieving and Sustaining Peace and Avoiding Conflict.” According to a UOG release, the theme aims to reflect a balance between cultural perspectives and current geopolitical issues in the region.
The keynote address, “Peace and Partnership in the Indo-Pacific: A Regional Outlook and Strategic Leadership in Navigating Regional Tensions,” will be delivered online on behalf of Gen. Edward M. Año, national security adviser and director-general of the National Security Council of the Philippines. It will be presented by National Security Council spokesperson Maj. Gen. Cornelio H. Valencia, Jr.
Featured speakers include the Philippines National Security Council special adviser Jonathan E. Malaya and Chunch Chieh, assistant professor at the Graduate Institute of International Affairs and Strategic Studies in Taipei, Taiwan.
Two panel discussions will also be held:
- Panel 1: Education, Policy, and Civic Engagement in Sustaining Peaceful Societies featuring Robert Underwood, Sen. Frank F. Blas Jr., Ansito Walter, and Nicole Calvo.
- Panel 2: Leadership, Resilience, and the Real Costs of Conflict in the Indo-Pacific featuring Del. James Moylan, Roseann Jones, attorney Robert Gregory Perez Cruz, Chirag Bhojwani, and Robert Celestial.
The conference is open to the public and welcomes participation from students, scholars, policymakers, and community members interested in peacebuilding and regional security issues.
