Guam agriculture officials said a green sea turtle that was speared through the neck by a poacher was rehabilitated and released back into the wild late last week.

Conservation officers found the injured turtle when they responded to a poaching report.

The animal was placed in the care of Territorial Veterinarian Dr. Mariana Turner, with support from the University of Guam Marine Laboratory.

Once the turtle was healed, biologists applied a tracking tag for future identification and monitoring, and the turtle was released into the ocean.
