Five candidates for superintendent of GDOE

Five candidates are being considered to replace Kenneth Erik Swanson as superintendent of Guam schools, according to the Guam Education Board.

They are:

  • Barbara Adamos, acting superintendent, Educational Support & Community Learning
  • Erika Cruz, acting principal, J.P. Torres Success Academy
  • Kenneth Perez, former deputy superintendent, Educational Support & Community Learning
  • Joseph Sanchez, deputy superintendent, Curriculum & Instruction
  • Judith Won Pat, former acting superintendent

Two other applicants were deemed non-compliant for incomplete documentation or failure to meet minimum eligibility requirements. Those applicants have until Friday to submit an appeal.

Interviews with the five qualified candidates will begin on Saturday.

Candidates will be introduced at noon Oct. 13 during a press conference that will be livestreamed on the department’s YouTube page.

Swanson, who has been in the position since 2023, announced he will retire on Dec. 31.
