The University of Guam’s Regional Center for Public Policy recently welcomed a 43-member delegation of Taiwan Young Ambassadors for a week of dialogue, leadership training, and strengthened regional ties, UOG announced in a news release on Wednesday.

The visitors from Taiwan were on the UOG campus for events that connected them directly with Guam’s student body, public leaders, and community representatives.

The delegation joined a high-profile campus panel that featured Del. James Moylan, Legislative Speaker Frank Blas Jr., USMC Capt. (Ret.) Charlie Hermosa and USMC Master Gunnery Sgt. (Ret.) Joseph Vitt Jr., who is also a fellow at the Regional Center for Public Policy.

Panelists in the Aug. 29 gathering examined leadership, regional security, public policy, and Guam’s strategic role in the Indo-Pacific, giving the young diplomats firsthand perspectives on the region’s policy and defense conversations.

Beyond the panel, the program included meetings with local government and community leaders and a series of exchanges with UOG students.

Delegates explored practical opportunities for economic, cultural, and educational collaboration. Discussions were also aimed at building people-to-people ties and sharing best practices in governance and youth leadership development.

The Taiwan Young Ambassador Program is designed to equip emerging leaders with real-world experience in diplomacy and public policy, creating cross-border networks that foster mutual understanding and long-term collaboration. Guam’s participation underscores the island’s proactive role in regional engagement and highlights UOG’s commitment to serving as a regional hub for dialogue on governance and leadership, according to the university.
