CNMI Gov. David M. Apatang, with senior members of his administration, participated in the 2025 Guam Defense Forum held Sept. 17–18 at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Tumon.
Apatang also joined Guam Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero and Federated States of Micronesia Justice Secretary Leonito Bacalando Jr. as panelists in a tabletop discussion titled “Enhancing Partner Nation Engagement and Regional Diplomacy.”
In a statement, Apatang said Guam’s experience in managing military presence and fostering civil-military partnerships offers valuable lessons for the CNMI as it prepares for a responsible military buildup. He emphasized the importance of aligning local priorities with federal initiatives while safeguarding the culture, land, and communities of the Northern Marianas.
“By learning from Guam’s precedent, we can proactively plan, strengthen partnerships, and ensure that economic opportunities and disaster preparedness benefit our people,” Apatang said in an issued statement.
The governor’s participation underscored the CNMI’s commitment to remaining engaged in regional defense conversations and ensuring that its voice and values are reflected in future policy decisions.
