Following a lengthy hearing on a pair of bills that would extend the governor’s emergency powers and allow infrastructure upgrades for a future hospital in Mangilao, a senator is asking for a meeting between the governor’s office, the attorney general and legislators.
Sen. Jesse A. Lujan has proposed a 3 p.m. meeting Tuesday to discuss the future of Guam Memorial Hospital.
During a hearing Friday, Attorney General Douglas Moylan said the island could lose more than $100 million in federal money if Guam’s leaders fail to find common ground.
Lujan said the purpose of the meeting would be to “chart a collaborative path forward, safeguard critical federal funding, and ensure GMH can continue to provide essential care for the people of Guam.”
The bills discussed Friday were introduced by Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero.
One would allow the governor extended powers during emergencies, and the other would authorize the use of American Rescue Plan funds to develop infrastructure for a new hospital in Mangilao.
