The Guam Department of Education (GDOE) is celebrating three outstanding educators who have been named state finalists for the 2025 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), the nation’s highest honor for K-12 STEM teachers.

Recognized by the 37th Guam Legislature at a recent ceremony hosted by Senator Vincent V.A. Borja, chair of the Committee on Education, the finalists are Colette Beaudoliel of John F. Kennedy High School for Science, Elaine Cortez of Simon Sanchez High School for Mathematics, and Mark Villaverde of Vicente S.A. Benavente Middle School for Mathematics. GODE’s superintendent joined school administrators, colleagues, family, and friends to mark the achievement.

Administered by the National Science Foundation on behalf of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, PAEMST honors educators who exemplify instructional excellence and leadership in math and science teaching. Each year’s state finalists represent the highest standards in STEM education.

GDOE officials say the recognition highlights the depth of talent within Guam’s public schools and underscores the island’s commitment to preparing students for future STEM opportunities.
